Plenitude Project: The Impact of Physical Exercise on Breast Cancer Patients

Research Confirms the Positive Effects of Physical Exercise on the Physical and Emotional Health of Women with Breast Cancer

Structured physical exercise can play a decisive role in the recovery and quality of life of women with breast cancer. This is the main conclusion of the scientific research conducted by Hugo Ribeiro as part of the Master’s program in Exercise and Health at Lusófona University – Porto University Center.

The study analyzed the effects of an online physical exercise program, combined with motivational interviewing, on women with breast cancer. The results revealed substantial improvements in physical fitness—including muscle strength, cardiorespiratory capacity, and mobility—as well as psychological and emotional well-being, particularly in self-esteem, sleep quality, and motivation to resume daily routines.

The research also highlights that physical exercise helps reduce the adverse effects of cancer treatments, aiding in maintaining treatment continuity and minimizing symptoms such as fatigue, loss of bone density, and increased body fat.

The study led to the development of the Plenitude program, which continues to apply these principles today through an integrated care service that combines physical exercise, nutrition, and emotional support.
