YouNDigital Project: Young People, News and Digital Citizenship

Study investigates how young people consume news, exploring diversity, gender and news avoidance, with questionnaires, interviews and training actions.

The YouNDigital Project - Young People, News and Digital Citizenship investigates how young people interact with the news ecosystem, exploring themes such as diversity, gender and news avoidance. Based on a literature review, the team identified gaps in research on news consumption among young people from different contexts, including vulnerable communities and different nationalities.

In the fieldwork, a nationally representative questionnaire was administered to young people aged between 15 and 24, complemented by interviews with news influencers. The results show that young people in the school environment are distancing themselves from the digital world and information platforms, as well as a widespread perception of news as dull and unattractive.

To tackle this challenge, the project includes training actions aimed at young people, teachers and journalists. Webinars and educational sessions are currently being developed in partnership with the Directorate-General for Education. Scheduled for completion in June 2025, the project is already seeking new international collaborations to expand its impact.
