Anthology: Revolutions of the Revolution
In a new anthology, faculty and students at Lusófona explore the many revolutions sparked by the April 25 Revolution.
Students and faculty at Lusófona University paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974, by participating in an educational research project that resulted in the anthology *As Revoluções da Revolução*.
Cristiana Almeida, a professor of Social Work, describes the creation process and the objective of this project. “We want to show that the April 25 Revolution was not just a political change, but a series of small revolutions that altered people’s daily lives,” says the professor, who is the project’s co-coordinator. The four books thus highlight the importance of reflecting on the social and political transformations that have shaped Portuguese society over the past five decades.
All the books address different areas of research and themes, ranging from statistical profiles on trends in employment, unemployment, birth rates, and mortality in Portugal to workers’ rights and opportunities, as well as women’s rights and the social policies that have been implemented over the past fifty years.
Professor Cristiana Almeida emphasizes that the collection is not limited to a theoretical analysis but seeks to give a voice to those who have never had the opportunity to share their experiences. “It is essential to listen to the voices of those who lived through these changes. History is not just made up of dates, but of people and their experiences,” concludes Professor Cristiana Almeida.
This project, which involved the collaboration of faculty and students from various programs within the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of Business (FCESE), was a complex undertaking that required an entire academic year of preparation and research. The efforts of everyone involved promise to enrich our understanding of Portugal’s recent history and its impact on community life.
