REMARKABLE, highlighted by the European Commission as an example of cooperation between academia and industry
The European REMARKABLE project, developed with the participation of ULusófona, was highlighted on the official website of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) as an example of cooperation between academia and industry.
REMARKABLE is presented as an example of how collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers can help transform scientific knowledge into practical solutions. Through collaboration among the project partners, solutions were developed for environmental monitoring in rural areas, including infrastructure for edge processing, data transfer, and AI-supported analysis.
Among the solutions developed are dendrometers for tree monitoring, data collection using drones (UAVs), and wildlife monitoring systems. These solutions have already been implemented in real-world environments, enabling data collection and the generation of new knowledge about the monitored contexts.
As Paolo Calciati, R&D Project Manager at PDMFC in Portugal - a project partner - emphasizes: “Through collaboration and the exchange of researchers with the project partners, the MSCA has helped us develop concrete solutions for environmental monitoring in rural areas, along with the infrastructure for edge processing, data transmission, and AI-powered data analysis.”
The project is also based on a dimension of cooperation between Europe and Africa, built upon existing collaborations between European and African partners. From the very beginning, business partners have been involved in defining priorities and preparing the first secondment periods, contributing practical knowledge and experience from real-world applications.
This collaboration later evolved into joint research and training activities, bringing together researchers, academic institutions, and companies to develop and implement concrete solutions.
The inclusion of REMARKABLE on the official MSCA website provides an opportunity to highlight the work carried out by the consortium and the role of secondments and researcher mobility in forging links between research and practical application.
