Lusófona University’s UNESCO Chair Renewed Through 2030

UNESCO has confirmed the renewal of the agreement for the UNESCO Chair in Education, Citizenship, and Cultural Diversity at Lusófona University, extending its term through June 30, 2030.

This renewal reaffirms the institution’s ongoing commitment to promoting education, human rights, and intercultural dialogue.

Recognition and Continuous Leadership

As part of this renewal, UNESCO has confirmed Dr. Judite Santos Primo as the Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair at ULusófona. The Chair’s team will continue to conduct research, develop educational projects, and carry out community outreach initiatives in line with the overarching global objectives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Strengthening Networking Efforts

The Chair’s continued participation in the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Program will help strengthen research partnerships at the national and international levels. Among the priorities for this new term are:

• International Cooperation: Strengthening ties with other UNESCO Chairs and UNITWIN networks around the world, promoting public policy dialogue and ethical reflection.

• Coordination with the National Commission: Ongoing collaboration with the UNESCO National Commission in Portugal.

• Social Impact Projects: Promoting initiatives focused on Global Citizenship Education and Peace, in direct coordination with UNESCO’s Education Sector focal points.

With the extension of this mandate through 2030, Lusófona University consolidates its position as a leading institution in research on citizenship, heritage, and cultural diversity in the Portuguese-speaking world and internationally.
